Andy Robertson spoke of his disappointment after Liverpool were excluded from the Carabao Cup by Manchester City on Thursday.
The current holders exited the event at the fourth-round stage following a 3- 2 defeat at Etihad Stadium.

On the defeat.
We had chances, they had chances. It was quite an open game, I am sure a good game for the neutral. But obviously we are disappointed to lose the game and be out of the mug. It’s really disappointing.
First game back, I suppose you could tell there were tired legs out there for both brigades near the end, and when you are pushing to try to get an equaliser it does not help. We pushed, we had a many good chances but obviously opened up and they had a many chances. But on the whole it was a enough open game. But these games are decided on fine perimeters and unfortunately it went against us moment.
On the pace of the game.
When we come up against City, I suppose both brigades kind of always raise their game and always can push that atomic bit further. Everyone’s back and obviously a really delicate game to start off( with), but it will be good for us in the legs and that is a positive we can take. But like I said, we are disappointed. We wanted to start this off with a palm and try to keep the good form from before the break, but it was not meant to be. But there is cons to take.
On the pretensions Liverpool conceded.
Disappointing. Every one of them could’ve presumably been stopped. The third thing, we have done well to block the cross and also we have just kind of switched off and did not go out and press the short corner.
That is what we’ve to look at, that is what we’ve to stop – we always have to be switched on. The pretensions are disappointing. We have scored two really good pretensions from our point of view, had a good couple of chances that we could’ve took. But on the whole it was a enough indeed game and they took their chances and we only took two.
On the cons to draw.
We do not really have time to waste, especially in the league( after) a really delicate launch before the break. We picked up the last couple of results, which were really positive, and we want to protest start that.
There are cons to take from tonight but eventually it ended in defeat and we are out of the mug, which is obviously disappointing when you want to go for every jewel available. But now the league thresholds, we look forward to Boxing Day.
It’s going to be a really delicate game at Villa – new director, new style of play and they have started really well under him. We are awaiting a really tough game but we’ve to be ready, we’ve to be back at our stylish if we want to climb the league – and that is what we plan to do.
